Rein In the Tech Giants
Three companies now sit between our citizens and most of what they read, buy and believe. Regulators are asking for sweeping powers: forced break-ups, audits of the algorithms, and a levy on digital revenues earned here. The companies are politely reminding everyone how mobile their investment is. Do we take them on?
The choice
Rein them in
- — The regulators get their powers, and the algorithms finally get audited
- — The companies announce their next data centre will be built somewhere friendlier
- — Income: 1.5% of GDP for 12 months
- — Industry: Technology growth +6 percentage points for 24 months
Leave them be
- — Innovation is best left unmolested, the lobbyists assure us
- — The platforms keep their algorithms, their data and their tax arrangements
- — National mood: The Great Disillusionment for 180 days, starting 120 days after the decision

“Even as a pro-free-market party, we cannot tolerate the disruption and concentration of economic power, nor the formation of cartels, monopolies, or oligopolies. We also refuse to tolerate lobbying; this law will push to end the influence of corporate money in our democracy and restore capitalism to its former competitiveness.”
“the decision is best we will do. Sovereignty belongs to the people, not multi-national tech monopolies. Regulating algorithms, taxing digital revenue, and dismantling corporate cartels is essential to protecting working-class interests from modern economic imperialism. We will not let borderless corporate empire sit above our and other sovereign nations, extract local wealth and operate without democratic oversight. They shall be audited, taxed and brought under public accountability.”

“We at the Liberty League are a free market party generally skeptical of government intervention in the economic sector. However, there are several crucial areas in which we believe tech giants must be reined in: 1) Privacy. The amount of data these companies collect about their users is obscene, and we believe that government standards to enforce a reasonable level of privacy for tech users is warranted. 2) Special tax breaks. No corporation should receive any tax breaks or special credits which are not also readily available to the citizens. Not only is this unfair to the citizenry, but the practice of special tax credits is actually anti-free market, allowing the government to use their tax power to pick winners and losers in the tech sector. 3) Data centers. If a community does not want a data center, we believe the best course is for the data center to relocate elsewhere, a stance we believe synthesizes with our closed borders stance, affirming the land belongs to the people.”

Freedom requires a free and independent media, open information, and affordable access to the internet.”

Party breakdown
3 votes recorded“No single government still holds full leverage over corporations three times the size of most national budgets. Fjordheim already refused self-regulation for its press, chose licensing and safety audits over light-touch rules for AI, and rejected the idea that oversight should be optional when power is concentrated enough to shape what an entire population reads, buys, and believes. This global decision asks the same question at a larger scale, and the answer doesn't change with distance. Yes, one or two data centers may relocate somewhere more permissive — that's the cost of meaning it. But real audits, real enforcement, and a fair digital levy return more to our own people than quiet deference ever has, and the world's overwhelming response so far tells us this isn't a fringe position, it's a shared one. ASTER votes to rein them in.”
“Innovation depends on freedom to invest, compete and take risks. Sweeping regulation, forced break-ups and new digital taxes risk driving investment elsewhere and weakening Fjordheim’s attractiveness as a technology hub. Competition problems should be addressed with targeted antitrust enforcement, not broad government control of the sector.”

“The largest technology companies have accumulated enormous influence over our economy, information and daily lives. That power must come with responsibility. Regulators should have the authority to audit algorithms, tackle anti-competitive behaviour and ensure that companies benefiting from our citizens and markets pay a fair share of tax. We will not accept threats to move investment as a reason to weaken democratic oversight. Investment matters, but so do workers, consumers, smaller businesses and the public interest. AFL believes technology should serve society, not control it. Strong, transparent regulation can ensure innovation benefits everyone rather than concentrating wealth and power in the hands of a few corporations.”

“Saxenheim must ensure that powerful technology corporations serve the national interest rather than becoming powerful enough to operate beyond meaningful state oversight. Auditing algorithms and regulating dominant platforms strengthens national sovereignty, protects citizens, and prevents excessive corporate concentration. The additional revenue and boost to technology growth also provide economic benefits, while reinforcing the principle that private industry can prosper but must ultimately operate within a strong national framework.”
“ADFR strongly supports digitalisation, innovation and a competitive technology sector, but freedom cannot mean that companies, especially oligopolists, may operate without accountability. We favour light-touch, proportionate regulation that protects innovation while ensuring that companies handling vast amounts of data and shaping public life meet clear standards of responsibility. Algorithmic audits and a fair contribution from digital revenues are reasonable safeguards, not hostility towards business (which, en passant, receive a fairly large share of support, at least in our country and thanks to our policies). We want a dynamic digital economy where innovation is encouraged, but where even the largest companies play by the rules and contribute fairly to the society they profit from.”
