1. Who this applies to

Lawmaker is a multiplayer political simulation game, currently in alpha. This notice applies to everyone who creates an account or plays the game. By creating an account, or by continuing to play after this notice is published or updated, you agree to it and to the Game Rules.

If you do not agree, please stop playing and ask us to delete your account.

2. The data we collect

Account data

Your email address, a hashed version of your password, and, if you sign in with Discord, the identifier and display name Discord shares with us. We use these to run your account, to send you game and account emails you have opted into, and to contact you about rule enforcement.

IP address

Each time you log in, and about once an hour while you play, we record the IP address your request came from together with the time and your account.

Browser fingerprint

About once an hour while you are logged in, a script in your browser (the open-source FingerprintJS library) combines characteristics of your device and browser into a single opaque identifier. We store that identifier alongside your IP address, together with a summary of the characteristics behind it.

Those characteristics are: your time zone, screen size and colour depth, operating system, browser vendor and version, language settings, number of processor cores, approximate memory, touch support, graphics card model, and opaque digests (not the raw data) of how your browser renders a test image and sound, which fonts it has installed, and which plugins and graphics extensions it reports.

We do not receive the content of any page you visit, your files, or anything you type.

Why we collect IP addresses and fingerprints

The Game Rules allow more than one account per person but forbid operating more than one party in the same country. IP addresses and browser fingerprints let moderators spot accounts that appear to be run by the same person in the same country. They are used only for this fair-play enforcement and for the security of the game. They are never used for advertising and are never sold.

A match is a signal for a human moderator to investigate, not an automatic penalty. Shared households, offices and networks happen, and a moderator can clear a party from the report.

How long we keep it

IP address and fingerprint records are deleted automatically 30 days after they are recorded. Moderation records (warnings and yellow cards) are kept for as long as your account exists so that repeat behaviour can be identified.

Cookies and analytics

The game uses cookies that are necessary for it to work: a session cookie that keeps you logged in, a security token that protects forms, and a cookie remembering your chosen language. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without tracking you across other sites. Your browser may also keep a note of the date the fingerprint was last sent, so that it is not sent more than once a day.

Where it is stored and who can see it

Your data is stored on the servers that host the game and is visible only to the game's operator and moderators. Hosting and email providers process it on our behalf. We do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

Your rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account and the personal data attached to it. Contact us through the community Discord server linked in the footer, or through the bug report button at the bottom right of any page.

3. Content you submit to the game

"Content" means anything you create or upload in the game: party names, logos, descriptions and manifestos, laws, proposals, amendments, constitutional changes, speeches, messages, social media posts, character names and biographies, bloc and cabinet material, votes and any other text, image or data you submit.

The licence you grant

You keep any copyright you hold in your content. In return for being allowed to play, you grant Lawmaker and its operator a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, transferable and sublicensable licence to use, store, copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, publish, publicly display, distribute and create derivative works from your content, in any medium and by any means now known or later developed, without any compensation, credit or notice to you.

This includes, without limitation, showing your content to other players, feeding it to the simulated voters, journalists and other AI-driven parts of the game, keeping it in the game's history after you leave, using it to develop and test the game, and using extracts of it to promote the game.

To the extent permitted by law, you waive any moral rights in your content, including the right to be identified as its author and the right to object to its modification. The licence survives the deletion of your account or your content.

What you promise about your content

You confirm that you have the right to submit your content and to grant this licence, that it does not infringe anyone else's rights, and that it complies with the Game Rules. You are responsible for what you submit.

4. Moderation, changes and the rest

Moderators may edit, hide or remove any content, and may warn, suspend or remove any account, to enforce the Game Rules and this notice. The game is provided as it is, during an alpha in which features, balance and data may change or be reset without notice.

We may update this notice. The date at the top shows the current version, and continuing to play after a change means you accept it. Material changes will also be announced in the game or on Discord.
