Kalpetia
The Republic of Kalpetia
Kalpetia is famous for crystal lakes, shining mountains, and a government in the form of an ailing Republic.

Fleeing the oppression of Belvarius the Great, a fisherman's son named Marin Kalpet finds himself among a large tribe in the valleys of what would become Kalpetia. He married the daughter of the Chieftain of this tribe, and became Chieftain himself. He began to expand, creating a small region he called Kalpetia, after himself.
Following the death of Marin Kalpet, his grandson becomes ruler of Kalpetia. He opens diplomatic channels with the eastern monarchies, and becomes known as the Duke of Kalpetia, establishing the country as a Duchy in it's own right.
Following over two centuries of Kalpet rule, the last Kalpet Duke, Marin IV, dies with no legitimate children. His illegitimate son, Varol, is barred from the throne, but the people look up to him nonetheless. Varol, a merchant by trade, turns Kalpetia into a Merchant's Republic with himself as President.
Following the death of the President of Kalpetia, Belvaria sent in a militarized force in an attempt to conquer the country. The people of Kalpetia ousted the invaders but were unable to prevent the government's complete destruction.
Following a Constitutional Convention to set up a new government, Herbert Desmoullins is elected the first Consul of Kalpetia, representing the first and only political party, the Kalpetian People's Party, which would later be rebranded as the People's Choice Party.
The ruling party of Kalpetia, the People's Choice, failed to stop the latest wave of authoritarian proposals made by the Kalpetian Racial Order despite having the simple majority in both the Senate and that National Assembly. On November 9th, the Day of Rest Act, which makes maternal leave available exclusively for women, mandates religious meetings (in practice organized by the clerics recruited by the KRA), and lowered the retirement age. This unexpected defeat marks the beginning of the end of Kalpetia's ailing Republic and paves the way of the era of authoritarian rule.
A monarchy has been established in Kalpetia. Nominations for the throne are now open.
Following a serious of economically devastating bills, Kalpetia is plunged into a Great Depression. The ensuing anarchy strips the government of all power, and both the Republicans and the Kalpetian Racial Order are forced to disband.
The monarchy of Kalpetia has been formally abolished. The country transitions to a republican form of government.
House of Rouen begins its reign as King Louis I is crowned under the laws of Kalpetia.

Called by the head of government or the monarch, or held automatically in a new country's first year. For one year the usual constitutional-change cooldown is suspended, so a new package can be opened as soon as the previous one closes, and the cost of opening a constitutional change package is capped at 75 PP however many changes it contains. Only one package can be open for voting at a time and voting thresholds are unchanged. Once the convention ends, another cannot be called for 10 years. It does not skew elector positions or change salience — its effects are purely on the constitutional change mechanics.
