Zorath
Federal Democratic Republic of Zorath
Zorath is a technologically advanced parliamentary democracy, renowned for its innovation-driven economy and vibrant coalition politics. Power rests with a bicameral legislature — the People's Synod and the Directorate — where dozens of parties negotiate and govern together. A ceremonial President serves as ambassador and unifying symbol of state, while the Prime Minister, chosen from the ruling coalition, leads the government day to day. Zorath's culture blends pioneering self-reliance with a strong sense of shared responsibility, driving its people to build boldly while looking out for one another.
For generations, Zorath was ruled by a rigid hereditary aristocracy and a distant crown, with wealth and power concentrated among a small elite while ordinary citizens had no voice in government.
Economic hardship, food shortages, and resentment of aristocratic privilege ignited a popular revolution. Citizens stormed the crown's fortresses and abolished the monarchy, declaring "Liberty, Equality, and the Republic" as the new nation's founding creed.
The early republic descended into chaos as radical factions purged rivals and each other in a bloody struggle for control, leaving deep scars on the national psyche and a lasting wariness of extremism
Order was restored under a new government structure — the Directorate — a body meant to balance power and prevent any single faction from dominating again, planting the seed for Zorath's modern bicameral system.
Zorath fought a series of wars against neighboring monarchies threatened by its revolutionary ideals, eventually emerging victorious and spreading republican influence across the region.
A brief attempt to reinstate monarchy triggered mass protests and a second uprising, permanently ending any return to hereditary rule and firmly establishing republicanism as Zorath's unshakeable identity.
Factories, railways, and urbanization transformed Zorath's economy, but also sparked deep class tensions between industrialists and workers.
Emerging from the industrial era's turmoil, the Zorath National Congress was founded on Enlightenment ideals — individual liberty, secularism, and free enterprise — offering a modernizing alternative to both reactionary conservatives and radical socialists. The party became a leading voice for secular governance, formally separating religious institutions from the state for the first time in Zorath's history
Zorath was invaded by an authoritarian rival power but, after years of occupation and resistance, was liberated with the help of allied democracies — becoming a symbol of republican resilience.
Post-war rebuilding brought waves of immigration, and the Zorath National Congress championed multiculturalism and open citizenship laws, reshaping Zorath into a diverse, globally-connected republic.
Free-market reforms and a booming tech sector — driven largely by Congress-led deregulation — turned Zorath into a modern economic and technological power, respected globally for both its liberty-driven society and its innovation economy.
A stable, prosperous republic where the Zorath National Congress remains a major political force, still championing the same founding values — liberty, secularism, and open markets — that helped rebuild the nation from revolution to modern superpower.
