Historical Events

Country lore and historical record

1721 AD: Colonisation by Great Britain

1761 AD: Occupation by the French Empire during the Seven year war

The Seven year war has seen the Lavarian Island. Some men has been recruited for Britain and most came back but the most explosive event was when France occupied the Island. Most of the inhabitants didn't necessarily fight back, France wasn't better the Britain. Britain regained the Island at the start of 1763. The two years of French occupation did leave a mark on the island though.

1798 AD: Systematic Killing of Indigenous Tribes of the Lavarian Island

During British Colonisation, the settlers and indigenous tribes knew of each other, but kept to themselves. Although after a wave of many new settlers arrived at the start of 1790, the government of the island, controlled by London decided to exterminate the indigenous tribes to make space for their own infrastructure. Around 20.000 to 30.000 murdered indigenous folk have been killed. Even today the indigenous tribes of the island are wary of outsiders.

1942 AD: Lavaria gains independence from Britain.

Lavaria has, before being a socialist dictatorship, been a British colony since 1721. Socialist ideals have been quite popular in 1942, and since Britain has allocated all their resources to the conflict in Europe, a Communist by the name of Kolneov has seized his opportunity and defeated the small number of British forces on the island. Declaring independence in 1942, Kolneov will rule until 1988.

1988 AD: Lavaria becomes a democracy.

After 40 years of a socialist dictatorship, Lavaria, becomes a democracy. Over these fourty years one man ruled, Georgie Kolneov, and in 1988 he died. The powerfull people that Kolneov had installed now all wanted the position of the late president. The Minister of the Economy, Marc Isovno, one of the most strongest competitors for the presidents position, collaborated with militant democratic groups to install a democracy. After a short coup in November, democratic institutions, named by Isovno, were installed and Isovno became the first president. His original plan was to exploit the democratic system to put him in full control, but he failed after the first elections, safeguarded by the same militant groups, where Isovno lost. Isovno did try to coup the new presidents administration, with soldiers from the army of Kolneovs era, but police found out before he could do anything and then was imprisoned ever since.

2018 AD: 30 year anniversary of Democracy

Constitutional Convention
189d left
Constitutional Convention Temporary

Called by the head of government or the monarch, or held automatically in a new country's first year. For one year the usual constitutional-change cooldown is suspended, so a new package can be opened as soon as the previous one closes, and the cost of opening a constitutional change package is capped at 75 PP however many changes it contains. Only one package can be open for voting at a time and voting thresholds are unchanged. Once the convention ends, another cannot be called for 10 years. It does not skew elector positions or change salience — its effects are purely on the constitutional change mechanics.
