Nova Artaris
Federation of Nova Artaris
A former colonial empire, now a constitutional monarchy, Nova Artaris is a highly populated, developed power occupying a colossal transcontinental expanse that reaches across the seas. Its sovereign territory is organized into fifty protectorates, consolidated into five major dominions, all unified under a singular Royal Mandate.

To mark the turn of the millennium, the central archipelago unified under the First Royal Charter. This moved the capital to the Grand Spire of Artaris, establishing the throne as the singular source of law.
Artarian legions landed on the central continent. Unlike other empires that sought gold, Artaris sought strategic geography, seizing natural harbors that would serve as the "Five Anchors" of their future global reach.
Artarian ships crossed the "Unending Void" (the central ocean), discovering the vast, resource-heavy transcontinental landmass that defines the country to this day.
While Europe was signing the Magna Carta, the Artarian Sovereign signed the Steel Tithe, a decree mandating that 20% of all iron, coal, and timber in the protectorates belonged to the central war machine.
The first "True Map" was finished. The Great Cartography was a single, defiant act of "Paper Conquest": the Crown issued a world map that depicted the entire globe's coastlines as already belonging to Artaris, essentially declaring that any land discovered in the future was legally a "recovered" province rather than a new discovery. This map replaced the names of foreign lands with Artarian administrative codes, establishing the chilling precedent that a territory's existence only began once it was logged in the Royal Archives.
To manage the "Colossal Expanse," the Empire was split into five administrative zones. This was the peak of Artarian efficiency. Each Dominion specialized in a specific resource—industrial ore, agricultural crops, luxury textiles, energy, and finance—creating a global loop that made the Empire self-sufficient and untouchable by rival powers for centuries.
This marked the start of Artaris' "Glorious Era." The capital was entirely reconstructed using white marble and gold leaf, powered by early steam-turbine technology fueled by Kryos coal. During these hundred years, there were no major wars because no rival nation dared to challenge the Imperial Sovereign. Artarian "Peacekeepers" functioned as global judges, and the Empire’s universities became the only places where one could study the emerging sciences of electricity and metallurgy. It was a time of immense pride, where being a citizen of the Empire was considered the highest possible human status.
By the late 1800s, the Empire was struggling with "local drift"—protectorates were beginning to develop their own cultures and small-scale industries. To stop this, the Imperial Sovereign issued the Decree, which made it illegal for any region to produce anything outside of its assigned Imperial specialty. This turned the world into a fragile "House of Cards." A factory in the Industrial Dominion couldn't even buy a bolt unless it was shipped from the Mining Dominion thousands of miles away. While this gave the capital total control, it meant that the moment a single shipping route was disrupted or a single regional bank failed, the entire global system experienced a mechanical seizure. The Decree turned a flexible civilization into a rigid, brittle machine that couldn't handle even the slightest error, making the 1918 collapse inevitable.
The Empire did not fall to an invader; it collapsed under its own weight. After decades of over-extension and a massive economic "Hyper-Inflation" event, the central government in the capital lost communication with the Five Dominions. The Imperial Sovereign was forced to flee, and the once-unified military fractured into regional warlords. This marked the official end of the "Artarian Empire" and the start of a decade of darkness.
During the mid-Interregnum, global trade effectively stopped. The "Colossal Expanse" became a collection of isolated, warring city-states. Piracy became the only viable economy on the seas. In the home islands, starvation sparked the rise of radical democratic movements known as the "Nova Councils," which argued that the Imperial system should be replaced temporarily if necessary and that a new, cooperative way of life was the most effective path to survival.
The final major event of the Interregnum occurred when the "Nova" revolutionary forces captured the Imperial Archives. Instead of burning the records of the old Empire, they used the data to track down the hidden wealth of the former Imperial Sovereign. This funding allowed the newly formed "Consolidation Government" to rebuild the infrastructure, leading directly to the birth of the Commonwealth of Nova Artaris in 1931.
Exhausted by a decade of "Static," representatives from the Five Dominions met in a neutral port. They agreed to stop fighting and use the Archive data to restart the global power and food grids.
The official birth of the modern state. The country was rebranded as the Commonwealth of Nova Artaris. It was established as a Constitutional Monarchy, where the Sovereign remained the "Head of State" for ceremonial purposes, but a democratically elected Parliament held all "Head of Government" powers.
The new government used the Archive codes to reactivate global power and comms. Because the Sovereign officially signed the orders, the old military and "Integrated" systems recognized the commands, ending the Interregnum and starting the era of high-tech democracy.
Following a national referendum, 57.3% of the population voted to abolish the monarchy transitioning Nova Artaris from a monarchy to a republic. This transition ended 1975 years of monarch rule over Nova Artaris.

Called by the head of government or the monarch, or held automatically in a new country's first year. For one year the usual constitutional-change cooldown is suspended, so a new package can be opened as soon as the previous one closes, and the cost of opening a constitutional change package is capped at 75 PP however many changes it contains. Only one package can be open for voting at a time and voting thresholds are unchanged. Once the convention ends, another cannot be called for 10 years. It does not skew elector positions or change salience — its effects are purely on the constitutional change mechanics.
