Ostwaldreich

The Kingdom of Ostwaldreich

Ostwaldreich is a unique federal parliamentary monarchy located in the eastern part of Central Europe. The entire country is covered with dense forests and dotted with numerous crystal-clear lakes, creating a lush and picturesque landscape. Citizens vote for a political party, and the leader of the winning party automatically becomes the Monarch. While the title is traditional, the Monarch functions as both head of state and head of government, directing the administration and representing the country internationally. This system blends centuries-old monarchical tradition with modern parliamentary democracy, allowing federal districts to maintain local autonomy while respecting the authority of the elected central government. Ostwaldreich is defined by its endless forests, abundant lakes, and a political tradition that merges democratic choice with ceremonial monarchy, making it a nation where nature, history, and governance are closely intertwined.

Historical Events

Country lore and historical record

1401 AD: Ostwaldreich is Founded

Following the death of the Emperor of Grosartingreich, a group of nobles from the forest region of Ostwaldreich declare an autonomous kingdom.

1402 AD: King Piers Sevigny

In the first election held in Ostwaldreich, Piers Sevigny is elected King. His dynasty will hold the throne after his death.

1671 AD: Extinction of the Sevigny Dynasty

The death of King Piers IV marks the end of the Sevigny Dynasty. Rather than elect a new dynasty, the nobles create a new system in which an "Elected King" or Gewahtler Monarch, is elected every 4 years from a select group of nobles.

Suffrage Crisis
56d left
Suffrage Crisis Temporary

Triggered when a constitutional change removes the vote from a significant share of the electorate. While this mood is active, the bar for restoring the franchise is halved, and a package that only restores voting rights can be opened even during the usual constitutional-change cooldown. It lasts 180 days, the clock resets if the franchise is restricted again during that time, and it cannot end while too few people are eligible to hold an election. It does not skew elector positions or change salience.

Constitutional Convention
218d left
Constitutional Convention Temporary

Called by the head of government or the monarch, or held automatically in a new country's first year. For one year the usual constitutional-change cooldown is suspended, so a new package can be opened as soon as the previous one closes, and the cost of opening a constitutional change package is capped at 75 PP however many changes it contains. Only one package can be open for voting at a time and voting thresholds are unchanged. Once the convention ends, another cannot be called for 10 years. It does not skew elector positions or change salience — its effects are purely on the constitutional change mechanics.
