Recognise the breakaway state of Port Avalon?
The city of Port Avalon has always had a different culture and economy from the rest of Avalon. Now its leadership wants to establish it as its own sovereign state — a tiny but economically rich nation of 3 million people. This will only be possible with international support. Will the international community recognise Port Avalon's independence and welcome it into the community of nations?
The choice
Recognise it
- — We will publicly support Port Avalon's call for independence
- — The breakaway government hails us as a champion of self-determination
- — Will this inspire other regions to seek independence?
Withhold recognition
- — We continue to regard the region as part of its original country
- — The breakaway government accuses us of siding with the old regime

“The creation of a new nation is one of the most significant decisions the world can make politically, and so it must be based on a clear, lawful and democratic process. We believe constitutional issues such as this should be resolved through the rule of law, rather than prematurely going to the international community for recognition, and risking harm to Avalonian people and the nation's economy. We will not be supporting this measure.”
“Port Avalon has proven to be able to uphold it's own economy and governance, so we support their independence.”
“While we do support more action in the realm of decentralizing authority from oblivious bureaucrats, full independence is a much more radical proposal. We can and will support more freedom for the people of Port Avalon, but from within the nation state. Additionally, foreign interference in Avalon domestic affairs is gross misconduct. Who are they to have any say on our nation and its people's destiny?”
“This region is part of Avalon, and will always be.”
“Port Avalon will always be a part of Avalon. Not every part of a country will have the same culture-thats multiculturalism. We furiously call on other countries to stop legitimising this illegitimate breakaway. Port Avalon is never a real country and will always be a part of Avalon.”

Because of this, we are also supporting Port Avalon in its struggle for an independent state. We urge the leaders to work maturely and initiate a independence referendum and negotiate a peaceful, simple and quick transfer of power and statehood to prevent violence. If the referendum says "YES", then AZONIA will happily welcome Port Avalon to the international community, expediting trade negotiations and maybe a state visit.”
“The will of the people in the city of Port Avalon must be respected in our view. Their will cannot be changed, only future possible cooperation between them and their neighbours. It is more important to foster good relations amongst friends than to enforce your will.”

“PAS recognizes the independence of Port Avalon because we believe the right of peoples to self-determination is a fundamental democratic principle. If the people of Port Avalon have freely and peacefully expressed their desire to establish an independent state, the international community should respect that choice. We support a peaceful transition based on dialogue, respect for minority rights, and continued economic and diplomatic cooperation between Port Avalon and Avalon. Recognition is not about division—it is about respecting democratic will, stability, and the right of communities to determine their own future.”

“Our party believes in self determination for the peoples of other nations within decent guidelines. Port Avalon is determinedly different in all ways of life then its former ruler nation and so its people should be given a fair chance at independence.”
“Our party supports the power of the people and its right to self-determiantion, to choose their own destiny and how to prospect. The recognition of it's independence follows our principles and therefore we support it”
“As the party which holds government (alongside ALAYON) and the position of Foreign Affairs Minister of Charlemont. We believe that denying them independence would stand against the nationalist values of our party. They deserve independence because there is already a deep cultural and socioeconomic divide between the two sides, and the people of Port Avalon support this movement. The Office of Foreign Affairs for Charlemont pledges our support the state of Port Avalon, but we hope that this doesn’t affect our relations with Avalon, and we can continue trade and cooperation.”
“The State of Charlemont officially recognizes the sovereignty and independence of Port Avalon. Acknowledging the distinct cultural identity, economic self-sufficiency, and the peaceful democratic aspirations of its 3 million citizens, we welcome Port Avalon into the community of nations. We look forward to establishing formal diplomatic relations, fostering robust economic partnerships, and working together to ensure regional stability and prosperity. We urge both Port Avalon and its neighboring states to engage in peaceful dialogue to ensure a smooth transition toward mutual cooperation.”

That's like saying London should breakaway from the UK . or Texas should breakaway from the US. IT will cause political instability and like we have seen before, Breakaway states bring Instability and decades of war and border disputes.”
“There is little understanding of the political relationship between both parties. A middle ground which is an autonomous region”
“Labour believes it's unecessary for a singular city to break away from a whole country, since it will bring long-term instability and may actually make the conflicts worse”
“I oppose recognizing Port Avalon because economic success and cultural differences alone are not enough to justify breaking apart a nation. Supporting every wealthy region that wants independence could destabilize countries worldwide and undermine respect for existing borders.”

“Supporting this independence is a reaffirmation of the sacred right to self-determination, the heartbeat of every sovereign nation. The people of Port Avalon have proven they are not mere subjects, but a proud citizenry with a distinct identity and economic might. To deny this independence would be to act as the jailer for an obsolete regime - a role beneath our national dignity. Letting Port Avalon break free is to foster the birth of a dynamic new state, a natural ally that understands liberty is not begged for, but conquered. By recognizing this state, we do not create a dangerous precedent; we celebrate the triumph of national will over bureaucratic inertia. Port Avalon will be a citadel of prosperity and a beacon of true sovereignty. Liberty calls to liberty. Let us stand on the right side of history and support their destiny!”
“We as the National-Conservative Rally recognize the city of Port Avalon as an indipendent country as we support the Woodrow Wilson Doctrine that states that every nation, ethnic group, or distinct population should have the right to determine its own political destiny, govern itself, and choose its own form of government. Instead of being controlled by foreign empires or divided by secret treaties, each territory should belong to its own people, allowing them to form independent nation-states based on their shared identity. GO NATIONAL-CONSERVATIVE!!”

However, we must secure our sphere of influence in that area, and trade with Port Avalon would be very attractive. We must be pragmatic. Whilst we respect the principle of self-determination, it is not an absolute right under international law as it was primarily developed in the context of decolonisation, not unilateral secession from established democracies: something many politicians often overlook. Strong democracies should seek to accommodate diversity, not fragment until they become weak, divided and hostile towards each other. That said, we would strongly support greater autonomy, federal arrangements and a robust protections for Port Avalon's distinct cultural and economic identity within the existing state.”

Recognition of a new state should follow a peaceful, lawful and negotiated process, not unilateral declarations. Premature recognition risks increasing regional tensions and encouraging similar disputes elsewhere. If Port Avalon reaches an internationally recognised agreement with its parent state and demonstrates a stable commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law, we would be prepared to reconsider our position. Until then, we believe diplomacy and dialogue remain the best path forward.”
