Voting record

Every vote must state a public reason. Most recent first.

No

“Modern Alliance cannot support this proposal. While we recognise the importance of rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society, the justice system must also uphold accountability, deterrence, and public safety. We are particularly concerned by the proposal to abolish escalating minimum sentences for repeat offenders. Individuals who repeatedly commit crimes should face progressively tougher consequences, and removing this principle weakens both deterrence and public confidence in the justice system. We support efforts to strengthen rehabilitation and community policing, but not at the expense of effective sentencing for persistent offenders. A balanced justice system must protect society, support victims, and encourage rehabilitation while ensuring that repeat criminal behaviour is met with appropriate consequences. For these reasons, Modern Alliance votes against this proposal.”
