“Modern Alliance recognises the importance of maintaining a competitive economy while protecting the environment. We support sensible financial regulation and policies that allow businesses to grow, invest, and achieve economies of scale. However, this proposal also introduces a high living wage and immediate, strict emissions requirements backed by heavy penalties. While these objectives are well intentioned, such measures risk placing a significant burden on businesses, increasing costs for employers, and reducing economic competitiveness. Environmental progress should be achieved through realistic and predictable reforms that allow households and businesses time to adapt. We believe economic growth and environmental protection must go hand in hand, not come at each other’s expense. As this proposal does not strike the right balance, Modern Alliance votes against it.”
