“We do not support cutting the funding for the public network.”

“A strong public broadcaster plays an important role in promoting national culture, informing citizens, and strengthening social cohesion. The state should not surrender this responsibility entirely to private media or reduce its ability to communicate with the public. Public broadcasting should serve the national interest while remaining accountable and efficient.”

“Whilst we agree that the current governance model needs a reform (in particular, we'd like to allow advertising, as it'd be an efficient way to cut costs), the solution cannot be to cut most public services altogether. Democracy has a cost that we all should be willing to pay. That is, a multicultural and liberal society needs all voices to be represented, both from a political and an artistic standpoint: a limited broadcasting model doesn't provide for that, and in case an autocratic party were to raise to power there'd be little to no space left for dissent. For these reasons, ADFR cannot support this bill.”
