Rationale

Everyone deserves enough time to rest and recover from work. Longer paid leave helps prevent burnout and mental health problems before they become serious. At the same time, workers need the freedom to defend those rights when employers refuse to respect them.

Previous law
~4 weeks statutory paid leave
6+ weeks statutory paid leave

“We support this as we strongly support the unrestricted right to strike”

“ADFR's will support this bill. We're in favour of freedom to strike, as we deem it a basic civil liberty not much different from the right to protest. We'll obviously monitor the, we hope rare, cases of vexatious actions. For what concerns the 6 weeks paid leave, as a party strongly focused on supporting middle-aged people (it's one of our core pillars), we're very supportive: increasing free time, welfare, work from home policies and so on is extremely important for us. In 2020, people can be more productive and enjoy more paid leaves, especially for what concerns white-collar workers. Concerning the sustainability of such measures, they'll obviously be an extra "burden" for smaller companies (many bigger ones actually grant more benefits: we should always remember these are just the minimums established by law). But that is precisely why ADFR's always made sure to allot a very high budget for business support, 5.1% vs an average of 3%: we have, and always will, them covered.”

No

“Workers deserve fair conditions, but excessive leave entitlements and unrestricted strike powers risk reducing productivity, disrupting essential services, and weakening the national economy. The rights of workers must be balanced with the needs of industry, public order, and the interests of the nation as a whole.”

Competence And Freedom
Voted Dec. 24, 2019
No

“Although we agree that workers need protections, we consider that there must be a balance between thr interests of workers and employers. By favoring one side too heavily, the government would disincentivize investment and growth by making employers more reluctant to hire new employees.”
