“Expanding our nuclear arsenal will cost billions without bringing us any closer to peace. We should be working towards disarmament, not another arms race. And forcing young people into national service is not the answer”

Alliance23
Voted July 25, 2024
No

“This would reverse recently passed changes to make a better volunteer defence force.”

“We support a strong but restrained defence policy. A minimal nuclear deterrent is sufficient to guarantee national security (considering the international ban on the use of nuclear weapons, having "more" is just a waste of taxpayers' money) and should not be expanded into an unnecessary arms race. Likewise, we support a professional volunteer military rather than compulsory national service: defence should rely on properly trained and motivated personnel, while young people should remain free to choose their own path, and not see their individual freedom and beliefs violated by the State. Security matters, but so do individual liberty and proportionality.”
