Rationale

As the economy modernizes and develops, it becomes necessary to reform our statutes to reflect this new reality. We propose extending consumer protections for the longer expected lifespans of modern products, and present the revision of the classification of at-will employees to protect their rights

Proposed Changes

1

Consumer Protection
Previous law
Statutory refund/replace for faulty goods within a set period; basic safety standards
Lifetime right to repair, mandatory long warranties, automatic recalls, class actions, a regulator that fines and bans products

2

Gig Economy & Platform Workers
Previous law
Basic protections (minimum pay, accident insurance) for gig workers
Gig workers classified as employees with full rights (sick pay, holiday, pensions)

Voting record

Every vote must state a public reason. Most recent first.

Yes

“Imagine you are a working class family, the breadwinner, and you must replace a stove suddenly after it breaks? Because a warranty went up right before it up and went faulty? It is very troubling to think about all the families who had gone broke for a new appliance, only for it no to work. We wholeheartedly support this bill.”
