“Our party supports both civil liberties and personal responsibility. Peaceful protest should remain protected, while reasonable prior notice helps authorities manage safety and disruption. Young people aged 16 and 17 should also be allowed to gain work experience under proper safeguards rather than face a complete employment ban. And for those reasons we vote yes.”
Worker Liberty Act of 2023
Rationale
Protesting is a core pillar of democracy and should be easier to access. We also want to allow employment of 16 year olds in light work to allow young people to start their lives and make money earlier.

| ASTER | 7 | No | The right to protest freely, without noise restrictions standing in the way, is something ASTER would support on its own. But this bill bundles that with lowering the working age to sixteen — a step back from the very principle behind our Equal Steps Education Act: that every child's path runs through learning, not early labor. We can't undo, two weeks later, what we just built. ASTER votes No on the whole, though we'd welcome the protest provision again if it came to us on its own. |
