Rationale

Dignity shouldn't be conditional. This bill ends welfare sanctions, makes elder care free and universal instead of capped, fully decriminalizes and regulates sex work so safety replaces shame, and limits fireworks to licensed shows, sparing veterans, elders, and pets needless harm.

Voting record

Every vote must state a public reason. Most recent first.

“Increasing welfare to make it unconditional just decreases the productivity of a nation. Also, increasing spending for free universal social care for the elderly while already paying for their pensions as well seems like a populist idea that will increase our debt, in a moment where what we need is to reduce spending and increase productivity. For that reason the Libertarian Alliance heavily opposes this Act.”

Abstain

“Liberal Platform abstains. Fully decriminalizing sex work while keeping safety regulation in place is a genuine expansion of bodily autonomy we can support on its own. But this package also detaches welfare entirely from any expectation of personal responsibility, and expands elder care to unconditional, universal, taxpayer-funded provision — both a significant expansion of government with no offsetting reform. Limiting fireworks to licensed public displays is defensible on harm-to-others grounds, though it still narrows individual choice. Dignity and personal responsibility aren't opposites; a system can support people without removing every incentive to work. Liberal Platform abstains rather than vote against the article on personal autonomy we value.”

No

“It’s insane to give unconditional benefits. People need incentives to make something of their lives and work. This will keep people trapped in benefits, and does not do them any service”

Abstain

“ABF supports strong social care, particularly for the elderly, but this bill bundles worthwhile welfare reforms with unconditional benefits and unrelated restrictions on lawful personal activity. We support dignity and security without endorsing every measure in this package.”
