Constitutional Convention In session

In session until the 14th of July 2025. The amendment cooldown is suspended, so a new package can be opened as soon as the previous one closes, and no package costs more than 75 PP to open.

Name of the State

Art. I

The official name of the state shall be the Republic of Fjordheim Fjordheim, known commonly as Fjordheim.

Constitutional Changes

Art. II

This Constitution may be amended only by a supermajority vote of greater than two thirds of all seats of the Nordting . No amendment shall take effect within 1 year of any previous amendment, nor may any amendment be proposed while another remains under debate. The constitution was last changed on the 15th of October 2024 (2 months ago).

Suffrage

Art. III

The right to vote shall belong to every adult resident: universal adult suffrage.

Elected Offices

Art. IV

The President of the Republic shall be directly elected by the people every 16 months. The candidate with the most votes wins. The Nordting may call a vote of no confidence in the President of the Republic, requiring 55% of those voting to pass. The President of the Republic has no veto over legislation. Monarchy

Art. V

Fjordheim does not have a monarchy.

The Supreme Court

Art. VI

The Supreme Court of Fjordheim shall be the final arbiter of the law of Fjordheim. Any party may appeal to it on the ground that a law in force is unconstitutional, that a cabinet member or the holder of an elected office is acting illegally, or that a constitutional amendment is invalid. The Court shall hear the parties of Fjordheim, and its justices shall rule by majority. Its rulings take direct effect and are not subject to appeal.

Legislatures

Art. VII

The Nordting shall comprise 35 seats (115 from the next election), directly elected by the people every 24 months. The Nordting shall be the confidence chamber, responsible for the formation and dissolution of government. Offices and Powers

Art. VIII

Art. IX

The Minister of the Environment shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Nordting. The Minister of the Environment shall be responsible for: No powers currently assigned — drag a power here to assign it.

Art. X

The Minister of Foreign Affairs shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Nordting. The Minister of Foreign Affairs shall be responsible for: No powers currently assigned — drag a power here to assign it.

Art. XI

The Minister of the Interior shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Nordting. The Minister of the Interior shall be responsible for: No powers currently assigned — drag a power here to assign it.

Art. XII

The Minister of Economy and Finance shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Nordting. The Minister of Economy and Finance shall be responsible for: No powers currently assigned — drag a power here to assign it.

Art. XIII

The Minister of National Defense shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Nordting. The Minister of National Defense shall be responsible for: No powers currently assigned — drag a power here to assign it.

Art. XIV

The following powers shall be reserved for independent officials, administered by permanent non-partisan civil servants:All powers shall be assigned to cabinet members and none shall be held by civil servants. Drag a power here to assign it to civil servants.

Amendments

Art. XV

The Republic of Fjordheim shall maintain the capacity to defend its sovereignty, territory and people. National defence shall remain under civilian constitutional authority, and no foreign power shall exercise command over the Armed Forces of Fjordheim without constitutional authorization.

Art. XVI

The right to private property, enterprise and lawful economic activity shall be protected. The State shall promote competition and a free-market economy while retaining authority to regulate where necessary to protect public safety, fair competition and the national interest.

Art. XVII

The State shall maintain a social safety net for citizens unable to provide adequately for themselves, while encouraging employment, independence and participation in productive economic life wherever reasonably possible.

Art. XVIII

The Republic shall preserve and promote the historical, cultural and linguistic heritage of Fjordheim while guaranteeing equal citizenship and protection under the law to all citizens.

Art. XIX

Emergency powers may be exercised only where necessary to protect the Republic, public order or essential state functions, and shall remain subject to law and judicial review.

Art. XX

International agreements shall bind Fjordheim only in accordance with this Constitution and shall not supersede the constitutional order.

Art. XXI

“All citizens shall enjoy equal protection of the law without distinction as to origin, status or political affiliation.”

Art. XXII

This Constitution shall be the supreme law of Fjordheim. Any law or governmental act inconsistent with it shall have no legal effect.
