The Better Future Investment Budget — 2021
· Passed 18 Mar 2021
Rationale
The Better Future Coalition's 2021 budget is built on a simple principle: Costavela should invest in the future without sacrificing fiscal responsibility today. We are not proposing reckless spending or higher taxes. We are redirecting resources toward the areas that can expand opportunity and improve everyday life for working people. 1. We increase investment in infrastructure and transport, because strong roads, reliable transport and modern infrastructure are foundations for economic growth, employment and productivity. 2.We increase housing investment so that more people can access secure, affordable homes while supporting the long-term expansion of housing supply. 3. We maintain strong support for healthcare, retirement and essential social protection while making welfare spending more targeted and sustainable. 4. We maintain strong support for healthcare, retirement and essential social protection while making welfare spending more targeted and sustainable. We keep the overall spending envelope unchanged and do not rely on reckless borrowing or tax increases to finance our priorities. This is not a budget for bigger government for its own sake. It is a budget for better government. BFC believes that Costavela's resources should produce tangible results: better infrastructure, more homes, stronger communities and greater economic opportunity. Build more. Invest smarter. Secure the future.
