Rationale

By taking religion and patriotism away from schooling, we can allow the state to take a neutral stance on religion, and prevent biased teaching. And by reforming justice, we can help protect Broadlanders and visitors from being tried for the death penalty or having every movement tracked.

Proposed Changes

1

National Anthem in Schools
Previous law
Weekly assembly anthem (participation optional)
No anthem in schools (civics taught without ceremonies)

2

Religious Education in Schools
Previous law
Optional religious classes
Strictly secular education

3

Capital Punishment
Previous law
No death penalty
Death penalty constitutionally prohibited; extradition refused to countries that use it

4

Corporal Punishment
Previous law
Corporal punishment banned in justice system and schools
Constitutional ban on all physical punishment including by parents at home

5

State Surveillance Powers
Previous law
Targeted surveillance (court order required; independent oversight commissioner)
Strict privacy protections (right to encryption; no bulk data collection; facial recognition banned)
