Rationale

It is the nation's duty to defend access to housing for all. The private system maximizes its profits despite the working class. It's time to abolish it.

Proposed Changes

1

Social Housing
Previous law
Small stock for the most vulnerable; right-to-buy for tenants
The state is the majority landlord; rents set to income

2

Housing Supply & Planning
Previous law
Market-led, deregulated planning
Balanced planning system

3

Rent Control
Previous law
Light stabilisation, mostly market rents
Hard caps on rents

Voting record

Every vote must state a public reason. Most recent first.

Belvarian Peoples Union
Voted Feb. 13, 2024
No

“While we do agree with articles 2 and 3 we are unsure regarding article 1 as hard capping may cause some issues so with that said we will decline this proposal in its current form”

“We agree: housing is a right for our population, not a business opportunity for companies—many of which are based outside Belvaria.”

Freedom For Us
Voted Jan. 27, 2024
No

“We do not deny the necessity of access to housing and echo the underlying principles of this Bill. However, Section 1 of Article XIX of our Constitution guarantees every person's right to acquire, own, use and dispose of property and thus how much rent should be targeted needs to be determined by owners; therefore the hard caps clause is our redline.”
